It can be very useful to have a voltage available that varies in proportion with temperature : just think about computerized or non-computerized control systems, temperature monitoring, or simply a digital (or analog) thermometer.
The zero point is adjustable over a wide range and does not necessarily have to be zero volts for zero degrees.
The output is buffered and can be connected directly to an analog or digital millivoltmeter.
