Description:

Teflon tubing in 4mm and 6mm outer dimension, for various 3D printers.

Details:

  • Available in 4mm and 6mm outer diamter
  • PTFE Polytetrafluoroethylene, a synthetic polymer
  • Max. Temperature: 200 ° C **
  • PTFE is a common component used in 3D Printers. It is the teflon material used in tubes guiding filament towards the extruder and hot end. Some 3D printers require the use of PTFE tubes to ensure the extruder can push the filament properly, but direct extruders do not require such tubes.

Sometimes heavy use or very high temperatures deform the tube and it will require replacing.

** PTFE is normally not toxic at all. But when PTFE is inadvertently heated, PTFE can begin to emit severe neurotoxins. Some studies claim that at 200C, PTFE begins to emit toxins, which increase in amount and type as the temperature rises. Another source showed that at 500 C+ octafluoroisobutylene gas was emitted.

This is not normally an issue. The problem arises when 3D printer operators try to 3D print high-temperature materials on regular hot ends, instead of metal hot ends.

To avoid this potential health hazard, identify what kind of hot end your printer uses, and use only appropriate filaments.
