Overview

Use this 1Meg ESP8266 Wifi Breakout Module to connect to your router, then to the world!

PIN OUT
  • TX (UART TX)
  • RX (UART RX)
  • CH_PD (power down, pull high to enable)
  • RST (reset)
  • GPIO0, GPIO2 (general purpose io pins)
  • VCC (power supply 3.3V, max. `300mA)
  • GND

    Using the RED or blue FTDI adaptor, set the voltage to 3V3.

    Connect a jumper from:

    FTDI ESP8266

    ---------------

    GND GND

    TX -> RX

    RX -> TX

    Vcc -> Vcc (3V3) 3.3 volts

    Vcc -> CH_PD ; This pin needs to be high on reset.

    You need to be able to bring the RST pin low to reset the module after updating, so wiring a push button may be a good idea.

    Jumper GPIO0 to ground, provide a low on the reset, now upload your code.

    Remove the ground on the GPIO0 pin. Provide a connection to GND on the RST pin and release and away you go.

    This board shows up as Generic ESP8266 Module in Sketch.

    The black module is the 1meg device, I use 1M, no SPIFFS but it will also work on the default 512K

    Testing, where to start:

    The example is under ESP8266WiFi, then WiFiAccessPoint.

    This is a simple way to figure out if your module is working.

    Once the code is uploaded and the processor put back in run mode, connect to ESPap on your wireless network, it needs a password thereisnospoon

    Open a browser, 192.168.4.1 You should get back "You are connected."

    Its really impressive what the open source community has done, so much code, so much dedication to making it, and making it secure. Thank you.

    ESP8266 is a highly integrated chip designed for the needs of a new connected world. It offers a complete and self-contained Wi-Fi networking solution, allowing it to either host the application or to offload all Wi-Fi networking functions from another application processor.

    ESP8266 has powerful on-board processing and storage capabilities that allow it to be integrated with the sensors and other application specific devices through its GPIOs with minimal development up-front and minimal loading during run-time. It's high degree of on-chip integration allows for minimal external circuitry, and the entire solution, including front-end module, is designed to occupy minimal PCB area.
