Overview
Arduino Pro Mini clone 5 volt version.

Arduino Pro Mini clone 5 volt version 16 MHZ

Whenever I try to upload a sketch I get:
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding
avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 1 of 10: not in sync: resp=0x00

Make sure you have selected Pro Mini not just mini in sketch.

The next thing is that there are now 2 bootloaders, for some reason Sketch does not give you an option, nor does it detect which version is being used. Why would you not try the other if one does not work, from a programming perspective? Any how the only way to solve it is to burn a new boot loader.
Easily done if you have a programmer or an UNO.
To use an UNO:
Connect your UNO, select it in the drop down list, now go to examples select ArduinoISP and upload.
You know have a progammer.
Connect
UNO      MINI
GND to    GND
3V3   to    Vcc    3.3 volt MINI or .
+5V   to    Vcc on the mini if you have 5 volt version
10     to    RST on the mini, by the end of the board, by the serial port end
11      to    11 , the other end of the board from RST
12      to    12
13      to    13
If you have a 3V3 version of the mini, use 2K2 to 4K7 ohm resistors inline with RST and pins11 12 and 13, this will make sure it does not damage the mini.
Now got to the place were is says burn bootloader and you all set.
Upload blink to confirm you are back in business.

The Pro Mini Clone is a microcontroller module based on the ATmega328. It has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, an on-board resonator, a reset button, and holes for mounting pin headers. A six pin header can be connected to an FTDI cable or USB-Serial breakout board to provide USB power and communication to the board. There are two versions of the Pro Mini. One runs at 3.3V and 8 MHz, the other at 5V and 16 MHz, we offer both, plus the orignal, made in Italy.
