To many people, the sound of valves or tubes cannot be surpassed either by bi-polar transistors or FETs. In developing this amplifier, special attention was paid to the housing. Indeed, it was decided to not hide the expensive valves, so that your eyes can have something to enjoy. Four EL34s are used in each channel to generate the high power output. Very high quality toroidal core ultra-linear output transformers are employed to provide outstanding sound quality.
The K4040 is a redesigned version of the popular and respected K4000, it includes a number of changes that make the amplifier easier to build and setup, more attractive in appearance and even more pleasing to the ear in use.
K4040 improvements: One main circuit board - a few minor circuit changes have been made to improve stability with different loads. High quality capacitors are used throughout the circuit for improved performance and stability. Less wiring means less connections which could result in added noise and distortion. Servicing is less cumbersome due to removable bottom cover and front panel. Restyled enclosure with brushed aluminum front panel and chrome plated verticle mirror panel. Chrome rings cover valve bases of all visible valves. Four attractive chrome feet. Heavy duty gold-plated speaker terminals. Standby circuit keeps the amp up and running between listening sessions, thus improving valve life. Softstart circuit enhances valve life. Input mute during power-up and standby. Bias adjustment is no longer a cumbersome job. Behind the removable front panel the bias adjustment trimmers and switches are accessible. An LED display eliminates the need for a multimeter - very convenient for regular inspection of correct biasing.
